Customize Archive Widget

For someone with knowledge of PHP and WordPress, I’d like to customize the default Archive Widget so that it displays like a Quarterly Magazine with issues instead of dates. Instead of the list of monthly archives displaying the month and year, I’d like the month to be replaced with Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter AND the year to be replaced with the year and Volume number, and then the yearly issue number will be determined in the same way the Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter is. So that the final result is: Spring, 2012 Volume 25, #1.
