 * My usual Dashboard page, after some months not using the blog, lacks the basic
   info: the left hand side bar has no access to: Posts, Comments, Appearance, and
   so on; there’s no “Update” buttom to new versions of WordPress.
    Let me ask you
   for a very simple explanation: I’m not an IT guy, neither English is my mother
   tongue. Thanks!

 * Are you perhaps not logged in as the Administrator of the blog? Do you see a
   Users section?
 * If not, make sure you don’t have a different login to use. If you don’t, and
   if you are **not** using Multisite, access your database via phpMyAdmin (most
   hosting providers offer this in their control panel), go to the `wp_users` table
   and find the row for your `user_login` . Note the `ID` of this row. Now, go to
   the `wp_usermeta` table and find the `wp_capabilities` row for your `user_id`.
   Set the value of this row to:
 * `a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;}`

 * Dear James
 * Thanks for your answer. Let me make a more detailed explanation and tell what
   I’ve done later:
    After some months not using the blog, I tried to blog in and
   was rejected. Asked for a new password, received it in my email address and logged
   in. I have no other user and password, only the Adminidtrator one. No, I don´
   t see any Users section. I,ve tried to enter with two different PCs and one tablet,
   using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Safari. Thinking about a problem with
   user or password, I contacted Bluehost, and hat this live chat:
 * [Initial Question] Provider: Bluehost – My Domain is: “luiscarlosalcoba.com”
   My usual dahboard page, after some months not using the blog, lacks the basic
   info: the left hand side bar has no access to Posts, Comments, Appearance, and
   so on. There's no "Update" button to new versions of WordPress.
    May be this
   is linked to this fact: when trying to enter, the system didn´t recognize the
   password, so a new one was received. Is this new password not an administrator
   password? (8:42) [Tristan] Hello! My name is Tristan. I'd love to help you with
   your site issues today.
 * Before we can proceed I need to make sure you are an authorized user on the account.
   May I please have the last 4 characters of your Hosting Account password?
    (8:
   44) [Tristan] Are you there? (8:44) [Tristan] I'm sorry, but it looks like you've
   stepped away. I have not gotten a response for over 5 minutes. To makes sure
   I can assist people as quickly as possible if you don't respond soon I will have
   to close this chat, But don't worry You can always come back when you have a
   more time. (8:45) [Luis Carlos] Hello, Tristan, and thanks for your help. Let
   me first apologize because English is not my mother tongue and I'm not an IT
   guy, so I'll need simple and detauled info. If you're asking about the password
   the log in as admin in my web page, the last four characters are 2014. (8:45)[
   Tristan] Thank you! I appreciate you validating your account for me. (8:45) [
   Tristan] Let me take a look. I can maybe update it for you from here. But it
   doesn't sound like a version issue. (8:46) [Tristan] It is now updated (8:46)[
   Tristan] Can you log out of your dashboard, then log back in? (8:48) [Luis Carlos]
   Yes, I'm doing it now. Now I'm logged in, but the dashboard has the same layout.(
   8:48) [Tristan] Ok. Then there must be another issue. Can I have you log out
   of it again for a moment please? (8:49) [Luis Carlos] Logged out! (8:49) [Tristan]
   Ok. Now go ahead and log back in and check it now. (8:50) [Luis Carlos] Sorry
   to see, but it's the same layout. (8:52) [Tristan] Ok. One more time. Log out,
   clear your cache and history, then log back in please. (8:52) [Luis Carlos] How
   do I clear my cache and history? (8:53) [Tristan] It looks like this issue may
   be caused by old/bad cookies or cache on your system. Please try clearing both
   the cache and cookies. Instructions for clearing cache/cookies for multiple browsers
   can be found here: [http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050](http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050)(
   8:53) [Luis Carlos] Thabks for the link. I'm going to do it. (8:54) [Tristan]
   Ok (8:56) [Luis Carlos] Done! Thanks for your clear instructions! What's next?(
   8:57) [Tristan] Did it work that time? (8:58) [Luis Carlos] No, it says that
   I need to allow its cookis; I'm now doing it (8:58) [Tristan] Ok (9:0) [Tristan]
   How is that coming? (9:1) [Luis Carlos] I've dome the cookies thing; now I'm
   logging out and in to check (9:2) [Tristan] Ok (9:2) [Luis Carlos] Logged in
   again, but with no positive results (9:3) [Tristan] I can try one more thing.
   But if that doesn't fix it, then I am afraid I will not be able to help and you
   might need to speak to a developer or reinstall wordpress. (9:3) [Luis Carlos]
   Thanks, let's try it! (9:4) [Tristan] Ok. Log back out then back in once more.(
   9:5) [Luis Carlos] Done, and I'm afraid no news. (9:5) [Tristan] And you are
   sure that there are no other browser tabs open with your site or dashboard? (
   9:6) [Luis Carlos] What a browser tab is? (9:6) [Tristan] Different browser windows.(
   9:7) [Luis Carlos] Only the https:/my.bluehost.com one (9:7) [Tristan] Ok (9:
   7) [Tristan] Well then unfortunately, there is nothing further I can do for this.
   You may want to have a developer look at it or something. (9:7) [Tristan] Is
   there anything else I can help you with today? (9:8) [Luis Carlos] Just tell
   my what's the next step (9:8) [Tristan] Speak to a developer as I said. (9:9)[
   Luis Carlos] You mean a wordpress developer? (9:9) [Tristan] Correct (9:9) [Luis
   Carlos] Then thanks a lot and I'll try it. (9:10) [Tristan] Ok (9:10) [Tristan]
   Is there anything else I can help you with today? (9:10) [Luis Carlos] No, that's
   all. Thanks! (9:10) [Tristan] Ok. (9:10) [Tristan] Have a nice day! 🙂 (9:10)[
   Tristan] Thank you for chatting in today. After the chat there is a short 30
   second survey that rates my performance today and lets my boss know how I am
   doing. 10 is the highest you can rate me. One moment while I get you to that.
 * So, what do you reccomend me next?
 * Thanks again!

 * You’ll find phpMyAdmin in your hosting provider’s control panel.
 * If you can’t access that, you’ll need to speak with your hosting provider.

 * Hi again, James
 * I’ve done what you reccommended me: accessed my database through the hosting
   provider, went to wp_users table and found users log in. The ID was 1. Then went
   to wp_usermeta table and found that the wp_capabilities was already a:1:{s:13:”
   administrator”;b:1;}
    Any suggestion? Thanks again!

 * Hm, something else must be controlling it then.
 * Try [manually resetting your plugins](https://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)(
   no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one
   individually until you find the cause.
 * If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via [FTP or SFTP](https://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients),
   navigate to `/wp-content/themes/` and rename the directory of your currently
   active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-
   out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

 * Hi again, James. Thanks once more for your help.
    After a weekend out, I’m back
   again trying to solve the issues of my blog. I’ve tried what you recommended
   me. I resetted the plugins, the only difference being that Cincopa window does
   no longer appear on screen. Then downloaded FileZilla to access my server via
   SFTP, typed the name of my blog plus wp-content/themes/ and got the following
   message: TLS connection established. And after that, partially in English and
   partially in Spanish: Answer: 530 login authentication failed Critical error:
   server can’t be connected. Therefore, I can’t rename the directory on my theme.
   Sorry to report you once more bad news, but I suppose we’re facing a pretty strange
   issue. What do you recommend me next?

 * You’ll need to contact your hosting provider to sort out SFTP access.
 * It definitely won’t be the same username/password you use to log in to your blog.

 * Hello once more, James
    I contacted Bluehost and with their help got the instructions
   and finally got this message on FileZilla:
 * Directory listing of “/” successful.
 * Then Bluehost told me that I connected successfully via FTP.
 * OK, but I don’t know how to go from there to navigate to /wp-content/themes/
   and rename the directory of your currently active theme, as you said before.
   Can you please help me on that?
    Thanks!

 * It’s just like navigating and renaming files on your computer. You’re looking
   for a wp-content folder somewhere (probably inside a folder name public_html,
   web, or www).
 * Inside that, you’ll find a themes folder.
 * Inside that, you’ll find a folder with the name of your currently active theme.
   Rename that folder.
 * Consult the documentation for your FTP client for specific instructions.

 * I wrote you with my last comments a couple of days ago and now I don’t see my
   words here. OK, I’ll write it again.
    Following your instructions, I was trying
   to access my server via FTP or SFTP. Downloaded FileZilla and following Bluehost
   instructions wrote: Host: box688.bluehost.com Port: 21 Protocol: FTP Encryption:
   Use plain FTP Logon Type: Normal FTP username: luiscar1 FTP password: hosting
   account password
 * Then found the file you mentioned: public_html / wp-content /themes / suffusion.
   Then renamed it, and the whole blog dissapeared!!
 * I wrote the original name again but still there’s no blog. I’m scared. What can
   we do now?

 * Download a copy of Twenty Fifteen from [https://wordpress.org/themes/twentyfifteen/](https://wordpress.org/themes/twentyfifteen/)
   expand the .zip archive, and upload the twentyfifteen folder to the /wp-content/
   themes/ folder.
 * Then, never ever delete the default theme again. 😉
 * Note, you may need to rename suffusion again to give it a kick.

 * Hi James
 * After a hard week at work, I’m back here to solve the problem.
    I downloaded
   Twenty Fifteen and uploaded at the folder you mention. Now, at File Zilla, there’s
   a folder named twentyfifteen inside the folder wp-content,as well as another
   folder named suffusion. Every folder has a question mark, that dissapears as
   soon as I opne them. Regarding the dashboard and the blog, no news. What’s next?

 * No, twentyfifteen should be inside the themes folder which is inside wp-content,
   so:
 * `/wp-content/themes/twentyfifteen/`
