• Hello,

I installed a theme in my WP via the dashboard. Then followed a link to get two sidebars on the theme ‘Shades of Gray’, I messed up.

I re-uploaded the new themes funtions.php, and the sidebar.php nothing doing.

Now even though I overwrote all the files I can’t get the site back. The guy said overwrite but that did’nt work due to the theme install via dashbord…(I won’t install that way again) When I looked at host first time there was no Shades of Gray, so I sent it up via FTP. The creator said overrwrite but no joy because there was nothing at host to overwrite..

I even did try the Twentyten install but nothing brings the site back.

    I get this problem:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘(‘ in /home/katalina/public_html/katijah/wp-content/themes/shades-of-gray/functions.php on line 12

Why does it not recognise I uploaded the whole thing again…new install of the theme?

  • Try switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    Thanks Esmi,

I decided to uninstall that particular WordPress due to not being able to do anything.

I have in the past been able to have the default on in place of a bad theme…Wordpress used to tell you this was possible, not seen that for sometime now. It was’nt a bad theme as such its just I wanted two sidebars on a theme I liked. With hindsight I should have tested on my tesbed install first.

There was no way back to the dashbord, all I got was the warning error on a white blank page. I tried everything in dashboard but every thing I tried just went to the error page.

I think my theme messing up and not being deletable at host cpanel is down to us able to install themes from the dashboard. When I looked in my host file manager that theme was not there to select.

Anyway this can now be a ‘closed’ topic.
    Thanks Esmi
