 * I am having exactly the same issue since updating to version 5.6.6. My database
   is quite small (3,077 KB). The error happens with both the automatic, and with
   manual backups. I tried adjusting my settings (recommended in the answer to Matt’s
   posting) to Minimum and 20 seconds, but this made no difference. All my weekly
   backups have been flawless until this last one (now using 5.6.6). The error email
   I received follows:

 * I’m not a database guru, but looking at things thru IONOS, I see no problems
   or errors. Indeed, the automatic IONOS database backup is there, though it was
   last run a few days before this BackWPup attempt (therefore isn’t current with
   my Sunday activity).
 * Is it possible to revert back to version 5.6.5 to see if it still works?

 * Hi [@elsieblogger](https://wordpress.org/support/users/elsieblogger/),
 * Thank you for sharing the detailed log.
 * As a first step, you can try rolling back to the previous version to confirm
   whether the issue is related to the recent update. You can download the older
   version here:
 * [https://wordpress.org/plugins/backwpup/advanced/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/backwpup/advanced/)
 * Please download **version 5.6.5** and install it over the current version (you
   do not need to delete the plugin).
 * Once done, try running the backup again and see if it completes without the memory
   error. If it works correctly on 5.6.5, please let me know and we can continue
   investigating the behavior in **5.6.6**.
 * Looking forward to your update.

 * Per your direction, I downloaded the version 5.6.5 and uploaded it to my website.
   My backups are working **_perfectly_** with this older version. I will hold off
   updating to a newer (current) version until I’m sure the issue has been resolved
   in the newest version. In the meantime, I’ll still be able to do my backups.
 * Thanks for giving me direction, and good luck in resolving the issue.
 * I’ll mark this issue as _Resolved_ once the newest version is tested. In the
   meantime, I suspect that the older version will hold us over for the time being.

 * Hi [@elsieblogger](https://wordpress.org/support/users/elsieblogger/),
 * Just wanted to follow up on this.
 * At the moment, we haven’t been able to identify a clear root cause, mainly because
   we don’t have a reliable way to reproduce the issue on our end.
 * However, one of the users reported that optimizing/cleaning up the database helped
   resolve the same issue:
 * [https://wordpress.org/support/topic/errors-with-version-5-6-6/#post-18852429](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/errors-with-version-5-6-6/#post-18852429)
 * Could you please try that and let me know if it makes any difference?
 * If the issue still persists, I would recommend reaching out to our support team
   directly so we can take a closer look at your specific setup and investigate
   this further.
 * Best regards,

 * I have followed your direction and have optimized/cleaned up the database at
   my web host IONOS. I then updated my BackWPup from version 5.6.5 to version 5.6.6.
   Unfortunately this has made no difference, with the database backup still failing.

 * Using version 5.6.5, gives a backup file size of 3,090 KB (pretty typical). The
   flawed backup with version 5.6.6 is only 1.1 KB. I will again return to using
   version 5.6.5 until this issue is resolved.
 * For reference, I’m using Windows 11, 64 bit, fully up to date. The PC is a Dell
   XPS 8930 with 32mb RAM. As mentioned above, I use IONOS for my web hosting (since
   2006), I have a small blog using WordPress 6.9.4. It is NOT a commercial website
   and has but a modest following. As you can see, my database is quite small. Please
   be advised though, I am NOT an IT guy or computer guru. Thus, I am limited into
   what I can accomplish in dealing with this issue.
 * I’ve noted that several folks have claimed to have what appears to be the same
   issue. I think it unlikely that all these folks have suddenly started getting
   errors at the same time upon using this new version of software. I strongly suspect
   that some obviously unnoticed bug is in this new version since all the prior
   versions aren’t producing this error. Indeed, I have been using BackWPup for
   several years now, with NO issues until this one using version 5.6.6.
 * Good luck, and I am hopeful that this can be resolved.

 * I have reinstalled BackWPup version 5.6.5 and the backups are again perfect and
   without error. I’ll keep using this version until I see a newer version of BackWPup
   that claims to have fixed this issue.
 * Since I am using the free version of BackWPup, as I understand I can only use
   this forum for help, therefore am unable to contact support directly.

 * I’m experiencing the same issues with version 5.6.6 with multiple sites on different
   hosts. I’ll rollback to 5.6.5 for now. Hopefully this issue will resolve in 5.6.7.?

 * Hi [@elsieblogger](https://wordpress.org/support/users/elsieblogger/),
 * Just following up on this.
 * We haven’t received a support request from your side yet. If the issue is still
   ongoing, I’d recommend reaching out to us directly using the **Contact Support**
   option inside the plugin so we can investigate this more closely.
 * For now, I’ll go ahead and close this thread. Feel free to open a new one anytime
   or contact us directly if you still need help.

 * I have tried repeatedly to contact you directly via the **Contact Support** option
   inside the plugin. Unfortunately that isn’t working. The window opens and asked
   that cookies be allowed. I click the button, the screen changes for a few seconds,
   then brings me back to the cookies permission pop-up. Have tried repeatedly to
   both allow and disallow cookies, but every attempt fails, and I’m stuck at the
   cookies permission pop-up. I’m starting to lose all confidence in BackWPup’s
   programming skills! So sad . . . . 🙁
 * P.S. My thread has been marked as Resolved. It has NOT been resolved. I am making
   successful backups by using the older version 5.6.5.

 * There seems to be confusion as to the status of this topic. Someone (besides
   myself) had marked this topic as _resolved_ even though it hasn’t been. I changed
   that status to NOT resolved so it remains open. The other issue I added above
   was my failure to follow up with direct contact with BackWPup as requested by**
   WPM Support** due to not being able to get past the Cookies pop-up on the **Contact
   Support** window. At this point I’m apparently at a dead end.

 * I have realized that I have created a second issue within this thread about **
   Contact Support**. So I have started a new thread specifically about that issue.
   Now **this** thread can exist solely for the database back-up issue.

 * Just following up on this.
 * Did you get a chance to reach out to us using the Contact Support option in the

   memory issue properly.
 * Please let me know once you’ve sent the request, and we’ll take it from there.

 * Yes, I managed to get to your support via the **Contact Support** option via
   the plugin. Unfortunately I have no joy. I never actually got to a real person.
   It appeared to be a AI robot, and it kept asking me to do this and that, most(
   if not all) I had already done. I couldn’t seem to get a straight answer, but
   rather just an endless list of things to do including trying to get my hosting
   website to do this and that (things that I’m not able to do myself). I was not
   asked for any particular information as to my configuration. I don’t even know
   if by “configuration” I’m asked for my PC configs, or my small blog website configs(
   which would be with WordPress) or ???. In other words, I’m at a loss as to what
   information y’all need as I haven’t been told what.
 * I’ve already spent way too many hours chasing this issue from my end. But my
   engineering background (though mechanical) keeps telling me that when the older
   version 5.6.5 is working just fine, but then the next version produces a problem,
   that it’s not necessarily my configuration or whatever causing the problem. Obviously
   something has changed in the BackWPup code for 5.6.6 that has now _created_ a
   problem, at least with some users.
 * I’m not a software expert or IT guy, so I’m limited as to what I can do. At this
   point I’ll just continue using what IS working for me . . . version 5.6.5.
 * I do appreciate your interest in resolving this, but apparently the coders are
   hoping that the users can solve the problem for them. Hopefully one of the folks
   _is_ knowledgeable enough to provide the information that your coders can use
   to solve the issue.
