# Database Corruption?

 * Hi there,
 * I just did some plugin upgrade on one of my clients site. I didn’t pay too much
   attention about this and now I’ve noticed that weird character encoding are appearing
   in my content.

 * I suspect that my database is no longer UTF-8.
 * Other than doing a find and replace in the db, is there another way to fix this?
 * Can anyone remind me what the SQL command is for find and replace?

 * I grabbed an older copy of my database and replaced my new one. This took care
   of the weird character encoding.
 * The only plugin that required changes in the db was the next-gen-gallery. I updated
   the database once again following the next-gen gallery plugin instructions and
   the weird characters didn’t come back, so I don’t think that the next gen gallery
   plugin was the culprit.
 * The only other plugins that were upgraded were the quotes collection and get 
   custom field values. Perhaps one of these caused the corruption.
 * Anyway thanks to filosopho for the WP-DB-Backup plugin. It saved the day.
