    Ok, so I didn’t realize that I did this, but hopefully there is some resolution.

    So I was creating a site on my personal web server and had plans to move it over to another server later on. WordPress was installed and so I had all the content on this personal web server.

    When I moved it I copied all the content and moved it over to the new server. Apparently, I copied over all the content but I didn’t move all of the database content to the new one. The content on the personal web server was deleted and not recoverable, but I have all the files (meaning, images, css edits, php files, etc…) saved.

    Is there anyway to install a new database and still use the content that I have? Do I have to start over (installing a theme, editing theme, etc…). Basically I have all the files but not the database. What’s the quickest way of fixing this.

    I think you want to put this into the Installation section. But, first of all, what host are you using? As a response, you should be able to install WordPress into your new server, which will create a MySql database in your server. If you did not have any users in your old database besides you (you could always move your users), installing a new database and just uploading your WordPress content onto it should be fine.
    Another option would be to export a file from your previous WordPress account and import it into your new one. See the “Tools” section in your Dashboard.
    Another option would be to point your old WordPress account to a new site in your Settings (be careful with this – read the Codex and know what you are doing before you do this). I do not think this is what you want to do though.
    I would go with my first two options if you want to switch your server.

    Unless you can get the database off of the old server and restored onto the new one, I’m sorry to say it but you’re out of luck.

    If the old database does exist somewhere then you can backup and restore it onto your new server. Or if you can locate a SQL dump of the old database you can restore that too.

    If you are using a host like GoDaddy, something that has keeps all of your database history, you could restore it by finding an older version in History in your FTP client or wherever your host keeps History of your server.

    I’m using GoDaddy but I’ve called them and they don’t have the information anymore. I moved the WP content over, and then weeks later I got rid of that hosting and only used the new one. That’s when this issue happened because even though all the files and so forth were copied over it was accessing the database on the old personal web server.

    This is exactly what I am hoping to accomplish. I wasn’t able to find much information on how to do this. I can install WordPress on the new server. I backed up the content there. I can create a new MySQL database but what I do besides uploading the content? Do I have to edit the wpconfig.php file or anything with the new database info? If so, do you know what I have to look for/what to edit? This is the part that I am struggling with.

    Here is my suggestion:
    MAKE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR CONTENT. DO NOT DELETE ANY OLD FILES UNTIL YOU KNOW EVERYTHING IS WORKING.
    You want to upload to another server, to a domain. Install WordPress to that domain on your new server (Help for that – http://support.godaddy.com/help/1724/installing-hosting-quickinstall-applications). Go to your WordPress account on your old server and export a file with all of your content by going to Tools>Export. Save this file onto your computer. Go to your WordPress account on your new server, login to /wp-admin, go to Tools>Import, and import the file that you had exported to WordPress. This will put your content on your new server. It should have all of your WordPress content. There may be somethings that you have to re-add to your site but your content (post, pages, etc.) will be intact.

    So, to just make things clear. Although I have all the php files, image files, etc… available I don’t have access to the old database file at all. But I do have access to all of the theme elements the plugin installations, etc…

    Is there anyway to install a brand new database, and use the content that I have already created?
