# Database Error

 * My site went down around 3pm on Wed, Mar 18th. (After being up and down a bit
   earlier in the day). After a message about it being down, JetPack stopped notifying
   me and I forgot about it until today. Anyways, I cannot access my website nor
   can I log into the Admin. Going from either “direction” gives the error: “Error
   establishing a database connection”.
   If, in fact, something needs to be updated,
   I cannot get in to do it.

 * > Error establishing a database connection
 * means that WordPress cannot connect to the database using the stored database
   credentials. Either the database credentials are missing (which would be strange)
   or your hosting provider is having trouble making the database available.
 * I would therefore recommend the following:
    - Check the `wp-config.php` file to see if the database credentials you have
      on hand are still there. Your host will tell you which ones to use. If they
      are incorrect, update them here.
    - Otherwise, contact your host’s support team.
