 * Hello all WordPressers!
I am trying to install this software locally on a computer
with slacware linux 10.2. It is running apache with php version 4.4.2 I also
have mysql version 4.1.14, and I have already created a new user, mysql, as the
root user for the mysql application. I also created a database called wordpress
for the CMS to use. I put this info into the wp-config.php file, and I always
get the message that there was an error establishing a database connection. I
have done a million searches and tried to install different versions of mysql
to fix this, but nothing is working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -
   Jason

 * I had that when I first tried to install mine a couple minutes ago, so I went
and changed my users password, tried again, and I was able to complete the instalation.
so check to make sure you have the password set up correctly, and that you have
the host as localhost since it is on your computer.

 * I am quite sure that all of my passwords are correct. I can use the mysql database
from the command line in linux. I assume this means that mysqld is running, and
I have written things into the wordpress database with the user and password
that is defined in the wp-config.php file. Is there a port that I need to open
in linux, or perhaps to forward through my router?
    -Jason P.S. Thanks for the
   help!

 * Not really my area of expertise, but I know with my local install on Mac X.4.6,
the install path and socket were slightly different than an older version of
Mac OS, so I had to adjust the path from localhost in wp-config.php file.
