• I am getting the “Error connecting to database.” message and I am unable to post, to update posts, or to upload images. The live site seems to be working ok.

    Things I have done:
Repaired the database via the WordPress Utility
    Deactivated all plug ins
Contacted my host to see if this is a problem with the MYSQL server.

The host is currently saying that I have an open script running somewhere that is stressing the database.

I posted this question on the main WP fix forum and someone there suggested that if I had ruled out the plugins I should look to problems with my theme – which in this case is Kale.

Is anyone else using Kale having this problem or does anyone have any other suggestions for this seemingly multilayered problem?

    Thanks,

  • Hello, Dana Kester-McCabe.

Thank you for contacting us and sorry to read that you’re having this issue.

Any WP theme runs on top of WordPress core that is actually in charge of communication with the database. So “Error establishing database connection” should not be theme related. That being said, the easiest way to confirm that would be if you temporarily change the active theme from Kale to any of the standard “Twenty-something” WordPress theme and try to update a post or upload an image. If you still face the same error message then your hosting support should help you find out what’s going on.

Please let me know what happens.

    Kind regards.
