# Database Optimization

 * Hi i am not sure whether this is the right place to ask this question. But my
   website keeps telling me that error in Mysql. i contacted the hosting company(
   iPage) and they told me i have to add $20 every month in order to increase the
   database space or optimize it. I tried to but i couldn’t so i had to go back 
   to blogger and it cost me a lot of traffic. Can someone explain to me like a 
   two year old on How to optimize a database without paying more money? Thanks,
   your help will much appreciated

 * I have Installed Wp-optimize as you suggested, still testing it, i haven’t seen
   any big change but at least am not receiving the errors any more but the site
   is too slow. I have over 2000 articles and 762 users. Is there a way to host 
   the user database externally?

 * External hosting of the database is unlikely to be helpful.
    The most likely 
   speedups are:
    - Keep you pages lean, use graphics, pictures, textures etc, at sizes which 
      are only as big as your usage needs. (sometimes we see 2 megabyte files being
      displayed as thumbnail images)
    - Same for audio and video
    - Host close to your subscribers/clients, (often this means geographically, 
      but it is really in terms of network connection which can sometimes be different)
    - Host with fast high capacity internet connection.
    - Host which gives a better share of its memory/cpu etc. (some hosts can be 
      supporting many websites, all simultaneously)
    - Tuning your installation with options such as cache plugins can sometimes 
      be helpful
    - Very often, even usually the difference comes down to cost
