# Database Update Loop

 * Hi I installed an update via my wordpress hosted on 123reg.
 * No I receive the database update loop issue.
 * > Message 1:
   >  Database Update Required
   > WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update
   > your database to the newest version.
   > The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.
 * I press “Update Database” then I receive the message:
 * > Update Complete
   > Your WordPress database has been successfully updated!
 * I then click on “continue” and it takes me back to step 1 to update again.
 * I’ve seen some similar threads here but I’m unsure if they are outdated and nothing
   I’ve tried so far works.
 * I cant turn off my pluggins, so I backed them up via FTP and deleted them.

 * Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder
   inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using
   [FTP](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients) or whatever file management application
   your host provides.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
 * – re-uploading all files & folders – **except** the wp-content folder and the
   wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a **fresh** download of WordPress.
   Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the
   new ones.
 * – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php
