# Database Update Required Problem..

 * Hi,
 * I have a blog on wordpress… i’m no expert but manage to muddle through. However
   after a recent update I now just get the looped page saying that
 * ‘ Database Update Required
 * WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update
   your database to the newest version.
 * The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.’
 * After clicking update it just loops round to the same page.
 * I’ve looked at a few different forums on here with similar problems but none 
   of the solutions have worked for me – my page is hosted by 123reg and i’m not
   sure which version of wordpress it is on!
 * Does anyone know how i can fix it? I really don’t want to lose my entire blog.

 * Try [downloading WordPress](http://wordpress.org/download/) again and delete 
   then replace your copies of everything **except** the `wp-config.php` file and
   the `/wp-content/` directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively
   replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some
   uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete
   the original files before replacing them.
 * If that doesn’t resolve the issue, try [manually resetting your plugins](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F).
   If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the
   cause.
 * If neither of those resolve the issue, access your server via [FTP or SFTP](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients),
   navigate to `/wp-content/themes/` and rename the directory of your currently 
   active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-
   out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
