 * Will this plugin convert the jpg images to webp, and **update the image links
   on my site** (I use Elementor Pro) and then can I deactivate and delete the plugin
   afterwards, or is this one of those plugins that has to remain active in order
   to serve the webp images?

 * Hi [@mdc2957](https://wordpress.org/support/users/mdc2957/),
 * Thank you for your message.
 * Our plugin does not change URLs to images, so when looking at the source of the
   website, you will see the URLs for the default images all the time. The plugin
   creates redirections to output files in WebP and AVIF format, changing the MIME
   type of these images, but without changing the URL.
 * A guide on how to test whether the plugin is working properly can be found [here](https://mattplugins.com/docs/how-to-test-converter-for-media-plugin).
 * The plugin must remain active for images to be loaded in WebP and AVIF formats.
 * Best,
    Mateusz

 * Ah ok, thanks. I had found a plugin a while ago that actually updated the image
   links, but now I can’t find it again.

 * ChatGPT suggests using your plugin, along with a find and replace plugin to change
   the image URLs to the new webp files, what do you think of this:
 * ✅ PART 1: Convert All Images to `.webp` 🔧 Use: **WebP Converter for Media**
   by Mateusz Gbiorczyk
 *
    - Bulk converts all `.jpg`, `.jpeg`, and `.png` images in `/wp-content/uploads/`
      to `.webp`
    - Keeps original files unless you tell it not to
    - Fast and widely supported (1M+ installs)
 * 📍 Settings to Use:
    - **Conversion method**: GD or Imagick
    - **Convert existing images**: ✅ Yes
    - **Remove original files**: ✅ Optional (keep for now if you’re nervous)
    - **Deliver WebP by**: _No rewrite (manual)_ — we’ll do our own rewrites
    - Run bulk conversion in Media > WebP Converter
 * ✅ PART 2: Replace `.jpg`/`.png` URLs with `.webp` 🔧 Use: **Better Search Replace**
   by WP Engine
 *
    - Scans all database tables, including:
       * `post_content` (posts/pages)
       * `postmeta` (used by Elementor, ACF, etc.)
    - Replaces `image.jpg` with `image.webp` directly in your database

 * [@mdc2957](https://wordpress.org/support/users/mdc2957/) Tell me please – do
   you want to listen to ChatGPT or the plugin author? I wrote you how my plugin
   works. Our plugin DOES NOT CHANGE image URLs.
