• Hi,

I have two languages, english and german.
I want all the posts (no matter which language) posted in one standard category.
In the WordPress writing options I only can set 1 category as default, but thats just for 1 language. When I set the english category as default, the posts wouldn’t show up on the german site.
So, I would need a category that works for both languages, but I can’t choose that option when I create a new category, I always have to select one language.
    How can I fix this?

Polylang creates per language an “Uncategorized” (it’s a recent feature, be sure that you use Polylang latest version).
Go in Posts > Categories: in your case you have 2 “Uncategorized” categories.
You can rename them with the same name. Only the slug will be modified.

Hi, I’m using version 1.6.5, installed it just some days ago.
But there are no “Uncategorized” categories. And I don’t think I’ve deleted them.
Giving them the same name had no result.
Of course I could check both categories in the post, but I have some people posting by email and the posts should appear in the german and the english blog without having to login into wordpress and having to edit the post again…

But there are no “Uncategorized” categories. And I don’t think I’ve deleted them.

At the first installation WordPress sets by default the category “Uncategorized”. At the Polylang’s installation this “Uncategorized” is duplicated per language. It’s in the 1.7beta version.
If you have deleted “Uncategorized”, it’s could be generate an unexpected result. Generally WordPress assigns the default category in the language post if none exists.

To see which is the current default category: Go in Settings > Writing > Default Post Category: the category displays is your default category.

Which plugin do you use? Postie?

Isn’t the “problem” outside of any category discussion?

When I set the english category as default, the posts wouldn’t show up on the german site.

My reaction is: Of course not, without any additional programming, languages are never mixed. First selection is always by language, then possibly further filtered by category.

Yes, I completely agree with you!
The best solution would be if I could select “both languages” when I create a category.
Or I could at least choose categories from different languages – which I can’t.
Or I could say “this article is in both languages”. But unfortunately I always have to choose between german and english…

Categories are not obligatory, I just want to show all of my posts, no matter which language the page has.

Maybe this gets you further. It would be nice if you could tell us back.
