# Default Post Category Persistence

 * WordPress 5.3.2
 * When creating new posts and selecting the category, the default category is persisting.
   I selected other categories and unchecked the default but when I click to publish
   or save the default category shows checked again.

 * I’m unable to replicate the behavior. It could be a plugin or your theme interfering.
   Try deactivating all plugins and switching to the twentytwenty theme. The behavior
   should then be correct. Restore your configuration one module at a time, checking
   after each. When the behavior returns the last activated is the cause.
