# Delete capabilities

 * I’ve used a couple different role managers, like user role manager, role editor,
   etc. And these plugins allow you to add or remove roles, and also add custom 
   capabilities to those roles.
 * However, none of the plugins I can find seem to allow you to delete custom roles.
   Is there anything out there that will allow you to delete capabilities that aren’t
   part of the WordPress core?

    The documentation of capabilities is really… poor.

 * Me too! I have a heap of capabilities installed by various plug-ins I don’t use
   any more, or tried and didn’t like – and I can’t find a way of deleting these,
   so they are all still there, cluttering up my database for no good reaon. I’m
   sure there must be a way to do this, but…?

 * Use Role Manager only lets you delete capabilities that it has created but in
   my list of capabilities, there are many obsolete capabilities where plug-in trials,
   such as MailPress, have not cleaned up properly when deleted.
 * They don’t do any harm but there are tens of them and they are annoying 🙂
 * They are all stored in one ‘wp_user_roles’ field in ‘wp_options’ but it is too
   complicated to edit by hand.
