This indicates there is some kind of conflict with the javascript on that page. Usually, this is another plugin’s script.
Best way to get some specifics on the problem is to open the browser developer tools and observe the “console” when testing the group delete function.
I’ve disabled all plugins, without result.
Also tried another browser.
Can’t seem to find it.
The Popup with “delete” cross works in the menu tab with “show participants”, there I can delete a participant when clicking red cross.
It would be helpful to check the console for a specific reason for the problem.

I found the problem, it’s due to the translation. This is suprising, because it’s been this way for years and no-one has complained.
Anyway, I will need to issue an update to fix this. If you just want to delete the groups, you can temporarily switch to English (in the main WP Settings), delete the group, then go back to your chosen language.
