 * Hello,
 * I recently discovered I am close to the maximum amount of files limit in my server(
   240k/260k) and sounded strange as I don’t upload so many files.
 * After some research I found the problem is the image files, which creates from
   8 to 12 iterations of the same file after upload, for a lot of different functions(
   thumbnails, relateds, featureds…)
 * So if I upload TEST.jpg, I get: TEST-150×150.jpg, TEST-300×100.jpg, TEST 1024
   ×500.jpg…etc
 * I found a plugin that allows me to manually disable all the automatic image creations,
   what I need now is to erase all the images automatically created in the past
   and that are not in use. I installed the free version of your plugin but that
   did not help me finding them. Will the pro version do this task?
 * Thanks.

 * Hi,
 * Indeed, WordPress can create a lot of thumbnails. With the free version of Media
   Cleaner, if you delete a media through it, all the registered thumbnails for
   that media will be also removed.
 * However, if some thumbnails aren’t registered anymore (if you change your themes
   or settings related to image sizes or some process that generates files on the
   fly) you will need the Pro version and to run a very different scan: filesystem.
   In your case, this is why I recommend you to do: [https://meowapps.com/media-cleaner-tutorial/#Delete_All_Thumbnails](https://meowapps.com/media-cleaner-tutorial/#Delete_All_Thumbnails).
 * Do not forget to prepare a backup before doing this 🙂

 * Ok, I understand what you say, but let me clear something out.
 * In my case is not only thumbnails that I want to delete, I want to delete all
   the image iterations that are not in use. Like…if I upload an image and it auto-
   generates 12 versions and I only use 2, can your plugin delete the other 10 versions
   that are not in use?
 * Of course I will disable all the automatically generated versions that I don’t
   need but I need to delete the ones from before.
 * Thanks.

 * If you follow the procedure in the link I shared above, all the files created
   for a certain base image will be deleted (but not the main image).
 * What do you mean by iterations? I think you mean all the image sizes, but they
   are all thumbnails (of course, sometimes bug or huge thumbnails, but that word
   is just a shortcut for image size).

 * Ok understood, but you say: “all the files created for a certain base image will
   be delated”
 * Will they be deleted even if they are being used at some point of the theme or
   a page or something like that? Or just the unused thumbnails will be removed?
 * Thanks for the fast responses 😀

 * In my recommended process, they will indeed be ALL deleted 🙂 And that is usually
   better to do so, to start fresh.
 * Actually, it’s difficult to detect the usage of thumbnails independently. Virtually,
   any thumbnails could be used. That is why I recommend deleting them all, then
   to disable some image sizes (as many as possible) and to use Regenerate Thumbnails
   to re-create the thumbnails that you need while updating the Media with those
   thumbnails. Then the WordPress install will pick into the available thumbnails.

 * Oooook ok, now I understood it all.
 * Thank you so much for your answers and time. Hope it all works well, I’ll let
   you know.
 * Thanks!

 * Of course, let me know how it goes 🙂 And don’t forget the backup! Have a nice
   week-end.
