Hi, I have installed the WPAdverts plugin (the latest version) and I’m using it with DesktopServer (latest version as of today). For some reason, while submitting a new advert., the “Description” textbox is readonly, and on top of that it is a mandatory field – because of this I’m not able to submit any adverts. I tried submitting it using an admin account as well. I don’t think it is a permissions issue. I also did some research and some people suggested disabling the emojis, and I did just that – still no luck! I tried installing (and activating) the “Disable Emojis (GDPR friendly)” plugin by Ryan Hellyer; the “Emoji Settings” plugin by Sybre Aaaijer; and the “Disable Emojis” plugin by LittleBizzy. Any other suggestions ? I’m not very comfortable with coding, so if there are any other alternatives, please suggest.

  • “Disable Emojis plugin by LittleBizzy” is just a copy/paste with some syntax changes made different to the “Disable Emojis (GDPR friendly)” I made. So running them both at the same time is pointless.

This review also sums up my opinion of the other plugin:

I’m not sure why they even made it. It’s just the same thing with different labels :/

I have no idea about your problem or the other plugin, but just wanted to point that out since I saw this pop up via a notification due to you using my name in your post.

Thanks, mate! I have disabled and deleted the other plugin by LittleBizzy and there has been no change, so yes, you’re right! Having them both was pointless, especially since that plugin was a copy of your plugin. I’ve still got yours. I do have a question for you though – is there a settings page where I can disable all those unwanted emojis and bloatware, by any chance? Or does it do all that automatically behind the scenes ?

    It just does it automatically.

Note that it doesn’t stop you from manually adding emoji into your site. It just removes the extra stuff that WordPress core adds in for support emoji’s.

It also doesn’t turn of smilies, as that’s a different thing altogether. I think there’s a toggle for that on one of the WordPress options pages though.

Wow! Thanks for the prompt response! Sorry, one last question – The proposed solution in this thread: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/user-cannot-add-description/ – Is this the same thing or is it totally differnt? Sorry for bombarding you with so many questions. I’m quite new to this whole space.

I have no idea what that’s about sorry. Hopefully the developer of the WPAdverts – Classifieds Plugin can help with that.

@parrymcd can you share an URL to a page where you are having a problem with the description?

Usually, when the description is in a read-only field it means there is some kind of JavaScript error.

The most common one is that in wp-admin / Classifieds / Options / Core panel the same character is being used for decimal and thousands separator.

If you are using different characters then while on page with [adverts_add] shortcode click Ctrl + Shift + i this will open a developer console and show JavaScript errors on site. You can copy the errors and paste them here i should be able to help then.

Thank you, Greg. Turns out there was some kind of conflict with the “WD Facebook Feed” plugin. I deactivated it and everything was back to normal. WPadverts is working fine now. Here’s the error log anyway –

Here’s the error that I get if I activate it again… It’s a shame really, I really need that Facebook plugin as well, but I can’t use it… 🙁

Technically the WD Facebook Feed authors should make sure that either the plugin always loads correctly or disable it from loading in the frontend at all.

One way to do that yourself is to install a plugin like https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/plugin-organizer/ it will allow you to disable WD Facebook Feed on a page with [adverts_add] only (for example).
