 * What’s best when developing a new website for a client?
 * 1. develop their new website in a subdirectory of their current website and when
   done move to the final location on their server?
 * 2. develop their new website in a subdirectory of my own website and when done
   move to their server?
 * Should I anticipate problems in moving the site?
 * Is there a better way to develop?

 * I develop on my own server, where work is visible to the client. When the site
   is done, the client has approved everything, and the final payment made,then
   I transfer the site to the client’s hosting. (That’s how we write our contracts.)

 * Thanks.
 * When transferring the site to the client’s hosting, should I anticipate any (
   technical) issues moving the site and database?
 * Are there best practices in setting things up on your server to avoid having
   technical issues when moving?

 * Each site on my server is its own virtual host, so it’s in /var/www/client.

 * What do you mean by “virtual host?” Can I set that up on any hosting server?

 * Or can I develop in [http://mysite.com/clientsite](http://mysite.com/clientsite)
   and follow instructions in [https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress](https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress)
   when moving the finished client’s site to [http://clientsite.org](http://clientsite.org)?

 * You can do it in a sub dir on your site.
