Display finacial statement with aligned columns

I’m looking for a way to display financial statements with aligned columns in a wp2 blog. I’ve used the <pre> tag in the past to display these in html and xhtml, but this does not seem to work in wp. I have tried a few work arounds cutting and pasting asci, but these don’t hold up if there is an edit to a post.
