• Hi I wanted to solve the title question. I’ve tried the plugin but it doesn’t work. As soon as I empty the cache no images load on my webpage, even in desktop when no resize should happen. Maybe an incompatibility with cache optimizer plugins? I’m using WP Supercache and EWWW Image Optimizer.

I use Apache and no CDN service.

    Hello, there,

Well, first of all we have tested the plugin with WordPress version 4.8 and it seems to work as expected so far with generally no bugs.

When you say that you “empty the cache” you mean the Adaptive Images cache? Does this imply that the plugin used to work so far and stopped after your upgrade to 4.8?

If this is the case, well it sounds a little bit peculiar, but we should have to investigate what else has possible changed as well during this time.

    Cheers,
    Takis

Never worked, I only installed it with version 4.8. With empty the cache I mean the option that offers WP Supercache (a famous cache optimization plugin).
To explain further, I install AI, activate it and the images load but not for long. As soon as the WP touches the cache AI breaks my website. Images don’t load on desktop version and the website doesn’t load if browsed with a smartphone.

I should attach a debug message with this reply but sincerely I’ve just deactivated it since I don’t want to break my website again.

OK, I see what you are saying.

Well normally Adaptive Images works fine with 4.8 and any WordPress based caching plugin (WPSuperCache, W3TotalCahe, HyperCache, etc) because these plugins usually work on the text contents (HTML, CSS, JS) so there are no conflicts.

Of course, CDN and caching servers are a different case!

Other than that we may explore some other possibilities like:

    • Are you using Nginx? If you are then you need to make some manual changes to its configuration file because it does not allow direct htaccess manipulation like Apache.
    • Could you be so kind as to go through the trouble to activate the plugin once again and send me the output of the “Print debug” and “Print diagnostics” buttons in the plugin settings page?
    • Is there any chance you are using HTTPS but the urls defined in your WordPress /wp-admin Settings still mention HTTP?

If we cover the above and we still not find the problem then our only other solutions are a) somehow create a staging environment with the same setup as your website and debug things there and b) debug things in your production website if you think it could be possible.

    Cheers,
    Takis

As I said on my 1st message I’m using Apache, not Nginx, no CDN either.
I’m using SSL. I’ve changed the URLs in General Settings to HTTPS but still AI breaks my website.
    Here both diagnostics output:

    Hello, again,

After changing your URLs in /wp-admin General Settings did you save the Adaptive Images settings once again? Could you please make this one last try?

We have spotted a similar issue concerning HTTPS in some other threads here in the forums and we will try to make the plugin protocol agnostic in the next versions.

I am really sorry for the inconvenience, but it is quite difficult to debug these problems from afar.

    Cheers,
    Takis
