I set up a IP range, it doesnt work eather
Hi @edwardcaulfield,
Can you please tell me exactly where you have entered site.ru? Are you trying to block that referrer, and if so, are you sure that you have entered it in the correct field?
I’d also recommend using *site.ru* if you want to block that domain from referrers completely since it grabs anything that contains site.ru, whether there is something before or after it.
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up. I am blocking the hostname. Should I be blocking the referrer? Guess that would make sense, as this is what the 404 log file calls it.
The current block for the hostname is *.ru and see that I now have 4 blocks. Interesting….
I have added the referrer of *site.ru* as you suggested, just to be sure. Let’s see how many blocks it gets.
Best Regards,
Edward
Hi Edward,
What you should be blocking depends on what you want to block so to say. If you look at an entry in Wordfence “Live Traffic” you’ll see the hostname in “Hostname” and referrer you would see in the first line in the Live Traffic entry where it says “arrived from”.
Hostname is what the IP resolves to, “Referrer” is the page they visited before yours (or what they want you to think they visited before, Referrer is often spoofed).
Will leave you to experiment a bit for now, if you have other questions later just let us know!
Hi @edwardcaulfield,
We haven’t heard back from you in a while. I’ve gone ahead and marked this thread as resolved. Please feel free to open another thread if you’re still having issues with Wordfence.
Thanks!
