    Hi,

I had a message today from an affiliate we’re promoting who said “We had over 1000 clicks today but no conversions?”

So I took a look as to what may be going on.

I have ads set as ‘dynamic’ and it got me to thinking.

When ads use this setting, do they actually create a ‘click response’ when they change/rotate? If so, is this not unethical?

Affiliate promoters could face being banned if this were the case so need your assurance that this is not the case.

I’m only asking this question as I recall sometime back, someone else posted a similar question.

    Regards

Having clicks and not having conversions means nothing. That happens all the time.

And no, dynamic mode does obviously not generate fake clicks.
Clicks are only counted when someone clicks the advert (eg generates a click event).

    Hi Arnan,

Well, I can categorically tell you that in one day; an affiliate reported to us that that had 1000+ clicks.

“Can you please pause activity on the ******** program for now. I would like to explore what we can do to convert you traffic. We had over 1000 clicks today and no sales.”

Looking at the stats panel that records affiliate ‘clicks’ showed nothing of this activity; so we paused their banners and it stopped?

So what would you advise given this outcome?

Consider that if your adverts have external tracking they’re probably javascript adverts or something similar, html5 maybe… AdRotate doesn’t track those very well since there is no <a> tag in them to track.

That may be what’s going wrong.

Having said that, if there are clicks and no conversions, that’s not something I can fix.
Again, people can click adverts and not buy whatever is sold on the other end.

Assuming the quoted bit is from your advertiser – They suggest they want to explore options on how to convert traffic. Indicating there are indeed no conversions following the click. So that sort of answers your question I guess.

    Hi Arnan,

Thanks for getting back to me on this 🙂

The thing is, there is just no way 1000+ clicks were made by ‘real’ users afterall, you would imagine that at last one would have bought something right?

    And that’s just one affiliate!

Logically yes. But that doesn’t mean there is a problem with AdRotate or it’s tracking.
Check the bot/useragent filter in AdRotate Settings > General though. If you have a lot of crap crawling your site that may attribute to some “false” clicks. Adding keywords from useragents from those bots will influence stats.

Otherwise I’d look for the problem elsewhere – broken checkout on the receiving site for example. Or inaccurate tracking on their end or something.
