# Edit User Attributes – Update problem

 * I have recently run into a problem updating my users. I try to change Role, Last
   Name, First name, even the avatar. I make those changes then hit Update User.
   It returns a message that says Update Successful, but nothing has changed. The
   information I entered is all gone. I’m not an experienced user. I have reinstalled
   the WordPress 3.1 a couple of times thinking that something may have not installed
   correctly. I’ve deactivated some plug-ins, still no change on the User Edit screen.
   If anyone has a suggestion, I would be greatly appreciated. I can send several
   screen shots if necessary.

 * Do you have any problems updating or creating Posts? Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
 * – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a **fresh** download
   of WordPress.

 * I have finally completed the tasks sent by esmi. I appreciate the help, but nothing
   has resolved the problem. I am still unable to update an user attributes. The
   program believes it’s updating – it returns Update Successful but nothing is 
   updated. Any other suggestions?
