# editing categories using phpmyadmin

 * I’m currently revamping my categories list. I’m going to delete a whole bunch
   of them, and it takes a long time using the dashboard. Is it safe to delete multiple
   categories using phpmyadmin?

 * Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Posts will remain but the categories
   they belong to will not (you will have to reset them to another category). Probably
   some other issues of which I have not thought.

 * Well, I should probably delete the child categories first, because if I deleted
   parent categories, I bet that would cause some problems.
    heck, I better just
   use dashboard / manage / categories. My luck dictates that I would crash the 
   whole thing…
 * I’d like to try it, though just to see what happens. I’ll back everything up 
   first, give it a whirl and then report back here.
