    i would like to modify includes/widget.php in my child theme. Is there a way to do this?

    No, Every change in this file will be overwritten by any new upgrade of the plugin.

    Try my other post list plugin Ultimate Post List instead. You can control the order of each data item in a list entry, e.g. first post title, second thumbnail etc.
