# Editor availability is inconsistent

 * When I open a post to edit the editor section to the right is not always the 
   same. I currently have two posts up to edit on my computer. One has a section
   for categories, tags and feature image. I use all of those elements. The other
   page does not have them showing in the edit column. It has permalink and then
   discussion. I don’t understand why the edit column is not the same each time.
   I have tried to find something in the preferences, etc. but can find nothing 
   that helps me. The info page on the editing column says the categories, tags 
   and feature image are supposed to be there. Can anyone help me make sure they
   are there consistently? Thanks

 * As I understand we are discussing Post/Page Sidebar (also called Document Settings),
   which is part of the WordPress Editor on pages and posts. I would [recommend this article](https://wordpress.org/support/article/settings-sidebar/).
   It details the Panel and its options and I hope it might be helpful to you.

 * Thank you for your response. The article you referred to was the one I read earlier
   that tells me I should expect to see categories, tags and featured photo options.
   It doesn’t tell me what to do if they don’t appeared. I have looked at preferences,
   but don’t find anything there. The menu that pops up with the three dots doesn’t
   seem to provide any answers so I am still hoping someone can point me to the 
   setting that I seem to be missing.

 * Thanks for your continued efforts. Yes, the post you referred me to sounds exactly
   like what is happening to me. The categories, tags, and feature photo options
   comes and goes. I just opened a post to work on it, and it was all there. The
   last time it wasn’t. The post you referred me to doesn’t sound like really resolved
   the issue. Like the original poster, I can go into the list of posts and do a
   quick edit adding tags and categories, but I would prefer not to. I am currently
   traveling and have limited time to try to see if an add-on is causing this problem.
   I will check on this next week.
