# Editor problems (adding empty lines)

 * I am having some formatting problems with the wordpress built-in editor. Mostly
   with formatting text, for example I add empty lines between text only to find
   that they’re all gone and the text is again stuck together.
 * I went on to the HTML editor to add the spaces myself (with <p> for example) 
   and the changes were discarded once more.
 * I had some other similar problems with that editor and I do not like it. What’s
   going on, why is it so hard to make simple stuff and can I change it with a better
   editor?

 * I’ve never had any problems with either of the editing tabs stripping out line
   breaks or paragraphs. Have you tried:
 * – editing your templates and replacing `the_excerpt()` with `the_content()`?
 * – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?
