# Empty descriptions when using plugins

 * Using this plugin now appears to make the description and og:description on my
site completely blank unless the post in question is using an explicit excerpt
or has no images in the content.
 * For reference the only 3rd party plugins I’m using are Akismet, BWP Minify, Jetback,
   Google XML Sitemaps, and Redirection.

 * Sorry I forgot I disabled the plugin before testing normal WP posts, pages, and
   custom posts without images.
 * This happens universally on all posts, pages, and custom post types, unless the
post in question is using an explicit custom excerpt.

 * Hi Daniel,
 * My plug-in relies on an excerpt for the og:description, and a featured image
for the og:image. That might not be the ideal way for some websites, but at this
time there isn’t anything I can do about that for this version of the plug-in.
 * That being said, I’m currently working on a pro version that will be a lot more
flexible in that department. Hopefully it’ll be ready soon-ish.
 * Sorry I know that might not be of much help 🙁

 * Sorry but you seem to be misunderstanding what I’m saying.
 * I’m saying that by default my WordPress installation ALREADY has a meta description
tag and og:description filled with a description to it. And the_excerpt already
has handling build into WordPress to generate an excerpt from the content.
 * But when I activate your plugin the description meta tag and og:description become
=””, completely erasing the description I already had and event disabling the
automatic generation of a description from content that iirc platforms like Facebook
   try to do.
 * This is not something needing pro feature I’m talking about, it’s a critical
bug where your plugin destroys something that already works.

 * Sorry I misunderstood Daniel,
 * You’re saying that your theme is already outputting og:description, but activating
my plugin causes it to become empty?
 * Clearly my plug-in is conflicting with something you already have setup on your
WordPress instance, but it would be too difficult to troubleshoot in a forum.
 * I wouldn’t call this a critical bug, but rather just another run-of-the-mill
conflict we WordPress users have to contend with on occasion. Deactivate my plug-
in and no harm no foul. If it was actually permanently destroying data (which
my plug-in actually can’t do because it only reads from the db to get the open
graph properties), that would be critical.
 * If I had a working duplicate of your website on my local development server I’d
at least take a look to see if there’s anything obvious I could to to rectify
it for you, but short of that honestly I would suggest trying a different plug-
in if you have reason to believe mine is causing the issue. I know there are
others out there that handle open graph properties (maybe way better than mine
too), and perhaps they are more forgiving with your theme/plugin set-up.
 * I know it’s not the answer you were looking for, but good luck all the same.

 * From a quick test, it looks like Jetpack is the one responsible for outputting
   my description and og:description tags.

 * I’m closing this topic die to lack of activity. I hope you solved the issue you
   were having.
