We have submitted a podcast to Spotify, however, the episode descriptions are cut short. Spotify seem to read the <description> tag for the episode descriptions/summaries which are shortened in the rss-feed for some reason.

Is there any way we can change this or what should we do to make sure the whole Episode destriptions/summaries are shown?

    What is the feed address?

Sometimes Yhost SEO plugin will truncate the RSS feed descriptions. Also, some other plugins or settings may do that.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

In the WordPress Settings > Reading, set the “syndicastion feeds contain.. ” to Full Text and save changes. Clear any caching and see if that helps.

    Hello @webexpress2019,

When I go to one of the episode “links”, http://www.medstream.se/3-problematisk-off-labelanvandning-av-lakemedel/ it redirects to another page. There is definitely something weird happening.

Looking at your feed your show notes in the content:encoded are limited to 2 paragraphs and that is it. I tried to view the page it should reflect its information from and it redirects (see first note above).

Can you explain a bit more of your setup and what you are trying to achieve with your site? Is this a premium podcast website?

    Thanks,
    Angelo

The redirection is correct, we don’t have a “feed”-website.

It works fine on Apple podcasts, there the entire episode description shows, so why does Spotify read it differently? And is it a way we can change the <description> tag so it’s not shortening the text?

Why is the show notes in the content:encoded limited to 2 paragraphs? I can’t see that. Is it something we can change?

    Hello @webexpress2019,

Please reply with your iTunes listing that way we can track things down that way. My quick search I think it is https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/3-problematisk-off-labelanv%C3%A4ndning-av-l%C3%A4kemedel/id1491305447?i=1000460196999 which if that is the case then what is in your feed is what is appearing on Apple.

What feed URL you submitted to Spotify if not the one from your first post? If first one, then things look right from what I can see.

As far as the <content:encoded> and <description> tag, these are set by WordPress. WordPress puts a text only version of your blog post in the <description> and it has a text length limit. The <content:encoded> is everything you write in your blog post content area. Want more in your <content:encoded> utilize the editor and add to the page as you would a blog post.

Referring to the feed you linked to, for latest episode titled “3. Problematisk off labelanvändning av läkemedel”, if you view the source of your feed and in that latest <item> you can look at the <content:encoded>. The only content in the content encoded is as follows:

This matches what is found on Apple podcasts.

Also refer to the <link> tag in this item, it goes to: http://www.medstream.se/3-problematisk-off-labelanvandning-av-lakemedel/ When I go to this link it redirects. Please turn off the redirection that way we can see the page content and see how it matches or does not match the actual <content:encoded>. From what you are telling me there should be more than just these 3 paragraphs, that page should display that if i could see it.

If you continue to redirect the page you will not take advantage of the SEO you could be gaining by having your podcast indexed by Google search for podcast search. If you are not aware, podcasts are now treated like YouTube videos, if someone searches and your show is a match it is on top of the search results, this is a huge advantage that you are giving up if you don’t utilize the show pages, which is the <link> for each item.

    Thanks,
    Angelo
