# ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED

 * I disabled plugins by: UPDATE wp_options SET option_value = ” WHERE option_name
   = ‘active_plugins’;
 * and also renaming the plugins folder to something else.
 * I am still getting:
 * > This site can’t be reached
   >  The webpage at [http://www.macdonaldmarine.com/m/](http://www.macdonaldmarine.com/m/)
   > might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
   > ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED
 * I did have a lot of speed optimization plugins running, but this error came unexpectedly.
   I didn’t make any recent modifications.

 * I haven’t touched the site in weeks, so I’m not sure. Likely customized W3 Total
   Cache or WP Super Cache.

 * Try:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves
   the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them
   individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s). – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by [FTP](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients). Sometimes, an apparently inactive
   plugin can still cause problems.

 * I did both of these already I believe. Check my original description to confirm.
 * Even after this, I still can’t load the wp-admin page.

 * Using FTP, cpanel, etc., got :
    /wp-content/plugins/
 * and rename it like this:
    /wp-content/plugins-HOLD/

 * I did that and nothing has changed. The content-encoding is still responding 
   as “gzip”

 * Have you discussed this issue with your hosting provider?
 * It’s possible your hosting provider does not support gzip compression.
