error 404/500

    Hello everyone,

    i have downloaded wordpress using mamp countless of times and each time i get the error 404.
    after installing wordpress and choosing a username and password it brings me to the login page but after entering these details it gives the following error
    This page isn’t working

    localhost is currently unable to handle this request.
    HTTP ERROR 500
    i have done everything from changing the wp-config.php file to changing the document root but nothing.
    can anyone please please help me
    may i add i am not very good with computers so go easy with the terms when you reply.

    i am now not able to even access the wordpress dashboard and when i did before everytime i refreshed the page it would bring the ‘page cannot be found’ error.
