  • Hi @naumanejaz,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Please kindly bear in mind that the error message you are getting is coming from your SMTP hosting provider.

The times we have seen this error, it usually indicates that the SMTP password for your server is incorrect. And because of this, the SMTP server you’re trying to connect to is rejecting it.

When you get a chance, please double-check the password you’re using with the SMTP connection to be sure it’s correct.

Also please know, that the Other SMTP mailer option does not use a dedicated API, which can lead to potential errors based on your website hosting/SMTP settings.

In cases where ongoing issues arise while using the Other SMTP mailer, we generally recommend switching to a transactional mailer option (it’s all mailers except the Other SMTP and Default (none) option).

You can see the complete list of all the available mailers here.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks 🙂

    Hey,

As I’ve said that the password is alright, I’ve double checked. And, I don’t see how it could randomly stop working? Like, everything was working normally and then all of a sudden it stopped and gave the above error?

    Hi @naumanejaz,

Thank you for getting back to us.

If your password is correct and you haven’t made any changes on the site recently, then it’s likely that there is something blocking the connection or authentication.

When you get some time, please check the following:

    1. Contact your SMTP Host with the error and our message about it. They can look into this and perhaps advise if there is something blocking the connection from their end.
    2. Ensure you are using the latest version of WP Mail SMTP (3.10.1). Please update the plugin if you aren’t.
    3. Please check your Site Health (Tools > Site Health) to see if there are any other issues on the site

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I’ve got exactly the same issue. Started on November 9th. Before that, everything was OK for years. I re-entered settings and also tried with another email from a very different provider, nothing changed, still have the “Could Not Authenticate” error. WordPress and plugins are all up to date. No issue in Site Health. SMTP is set on “other SMTP”.

    Best regards
