After updating the plugin today I now have two configuration validation errors. (I had one then did validate and then had two!)

On the Mail tab, From field, it no longer likes:
    [your-name] <[your-email]>

    Same for Additional Headers field:
    Reply-To: [your-name] <[your-email]>

What’s wrong, how do I fix?

  • From: [your-name] <[your-email]> is now very risky – your CF7 emails are likely to be rejected as spam by email servers around the world, without you knowing about it.

Using an email from the domain where your website is hosted in the From: field is the simplest safe option.

    Hi Niel,
With all due respect, I think you are missing the point. The errors say:
    “Invalid mailbox syntax is used.”
“Invalid mailbox syntax is used in the Reply-To field.”

So, is the syntax invalid or not? I’m doing what the CF7 website says to do (for headers field, anyway).

    I appreciate the spam info.

Sorry that you think I’m missing the point. I tried to answer your question quickly by pointing out why CF7 issues that warning & how to fix it.

Hopefully someone else will be able to assist you.

So you are saying that even reply-to being the user’s e-mail [your-email] is bad practice? Then how to reply to the user w/o some copy/paste workaround?

@takayukister, thanks. I finally found the answer on https://contactform7.com/configuration-validator-faq/ (“But if the From field is not the form submitter’s address, I can’t reply to the submitter.”). The Form had “text* your-email” instead of “email* your-email”. I guess at one time ‘text’ was valid. (I didn’t configure the original form.)
