 * With ‘https’ in the shortcode url, the plugin returns an error when attempting
   to load the document.
 * I get the message: ‘Unexpected server response (0) while retrieving PDF “[https://washington.kyschools.us/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Employee-handbook.pdf&#8221](https://washington.kyschools.us/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Employee-handbook.pdf&#8221);.’
 * Changing back to ‘http’ in the shortcode url allows the document to load.
 * Browsing to the file using the ‘https’ link in the browser works, just not in
   the plugin.
 * Thanks!

 * Thank you for your message.
 * Actually, when I browse to the HTTPS URL in a browser, I get an ‘unsafe’ warning,
   presumably due to incorrect SSL certificates. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s
   the problem, but please could you send me the URL to a page on your site which
   embeds the file (using the plugin), and shows the same problem?
 * I’ll see if I can think of anything else that might be wrong.

 * Hello Dan. Thanks for your follow up. The site actually wasn’t live until today.
   If you try that url now, you will see the ssl warnings are gone. However, I did
   find that if I browse the site using “https” the pdf loads fine when using the“
   https” url in the shortcode. If I browse using regular old “http”, the pdf wont
   load using the “https” url in the shortcode. This is also the case in the opposite
   configuration. When using “http” in the shortcode, browsing with “https” causes
   the error.
 * Also, try the test page i set up for you ([http://washington.kyschools.us/test](http://washington.kyschools.us/test))

 * That makes sense.
 * Of course the best solution is for you to always use the same transport (e.g.
   always https) across your site to avoid inconsistencies. Aside from the PDF warnings,
   users will see mixed content warnings for images on other parts of your site.
 * But it could also be possible to ensure the plugin always tries to use the same
   transport as the page on which it is loaded, regardless of the url specified
   in the shortcode.
 * We’ll consider it for a future version!
 * Thanks,
 * Dan
