 * I have received an error message that I don’t know how to handle. When I click
   Update in the **login form**, I receive an error message. **The second video**
   shows the error message that I get when I click Update form. I don’t know what
   to do about this error message.
 * I have also included video recordings and a screenshot to show you that the pages
   reflect they were created by your plugin.
 * **The first video** shows the Pages that I have through your free plugin: Account,
   login, registration.
 * I forgot to do a video recording of my lost password page to show you your code,
   so I made a screenshot of my lost password page. It’s at the bottom of this post.
 * Thanks for your help.

 * Hi [@sharenmcarthurgmailcom](https://wordpress.org/support/users/sharenmcarthurgmailcom/),
 * We understand your confusion regarding the advanced login form settings saving,
   while showing an error about the lost password page. This new feature is designed
   to address forgotten password issues and requires setting up an additional page
   for **Lost Password** and **Reset Password**. Please review this documentation:
   [https://docs.wpuserregistration.com/docs/lost-password-issues/](https://docs.wpuserregistration.com/docs/lost-password-issues/)
   and follow the instructions to resolve the issue with your login form not saving.
 * We will release a **new update** today. In this update, we have improved the
   error messages to make them easier to understand in the future.
 * Best regards,

 * I looked at the instructions, and they seem to be clear. Before I create the
   Lost Password Page and move on to do the Reset Password, do I delete the Lost
   Password Page that I already have? I would assume so, but I want to make sure.
   This is the one I have now: [Lost Password](https://storiesfromacottage.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=46603&action=edit)—

 * After I submitted my reply, I looked at my Pages again and saw your Account Page.
   Will a new Account Page be created when I create the new Lost Password Page?
   If so, do I delete my current Account Page?
 * I saw an Account Page **in no. 7 of the directions**, so that’s why I am asking
   if I also delete my current Account Page.
 * However, farther down on the page, the directions, as I understood them, stated
   the Acccount Page method had been deprecated. So I am confused about the Account
   Page.

 * Hi [@sharenmcarthurgmailcom](https://wordpress.org/support/users/sharenmcarthurgmailcom/),
 * When you install the** User Registration & Membership** plugin for the first
   time, the **Lost Password**, **My Account**, and other required pages are created
   automatically. If these pages already exist on your site, we recommend checking
   that the correct **shortcodes** are added. For example, make sure the following
   shortcodes are on the right pages:
 * For Lost Password: **[user_registration_lost_password]**
   For My Account Page:**[
   user_registration_my_account]**
 * If these shortcodes are already on your pages, you do not need to create new
   pages. You only need to select these pages in the appropriate page settings.
 * I hope this helps to clear your confusion.
 * Best regards!

 * (@sharenmcarthurgmailcom)
 * [6 months, 3 weeks ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/error-message-1074/#post-18722915)
 * Thank you for your response. I already had shortcode on both my registration
   and login forms. When I looked at my lost password page shortcode, I saw that
   it had words in it that aren’t in your shortcode shown in your reply. It had “
   reset password” instead. So I deleted the original shortcode and copied and pasted
   your shortcode.
 * After I did that, I was able to go back to my login form in the advanced section
   and choose and SAVE a page to redirect users to login instead of to the default
   WordPress login which I had disabled. My original support request pointed out
   I couldn’t save the redirect login page because of the error in the video in
   my original post. So, at the time, I thought, thank goodness my troubles are
   over! I logged out of my admin panel.
 * Sad to say, that excitement lasted only a short time. About 15 minutes later,
   I tried to login into my admin panel (storiesfromacottage.com/wp-admin). Well…
   when I typed my admin address (shown in previous sentence) AND my admin password,
   guess where I was sent? I was sent to the HOME PAGE of my WEBSITE!! I decided
   I should try on other browsers, in addition to Google Chrome. I got my same HOME
   PAGE when I tried to login to my admin panel on Foxfire and Microsoft Edge.
 * The only thing I could think to do was to call BlueHost because I pay for Code
   Guard, a service which allows me to go to a previous backup. So that’s what I
   did. After about 45 minutes, I was able to get back into my admin panel.
 * Then, it occurred to me I really should check my Lost Password code again. And
   guess what…the code had reverted to the lost password code that your plugin put
   in when I first began using it: [user_registration_reset_password_form]
 * Why did this happen? This isn’t good at all. So I am not going to put the new
   lost password shortcode on the Lost Password Page, nor am I going to choose and
   save a redirect page for users to login in through instead of the default WordPress
   login until you can tell me what’s going on. I don’t want to be locked out of
   my admin panel again.
 * I also didn’t understand this sentence in your post: “You only need to select
   these pages in the appropriate page settings.” Please let me know what that means.
 * “And, finally, your **Site Assistant **had a red (1) by it, so I looked at what
   it said. I copied and pasted it below:
 * 1) Required Pages Missing
 * Some essential pages are missing. These pages are needed to make your website
   work correctly. The following pages need to be created:
 * Login Page”
 * According to the pages listed in my Pages, I **do have** a login page. I copied
   and pasted it:
 * Select Login **[Login](https://storiesfromacottage.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=5455&action=edit)—
   URM My Account Page**
 * Thank you for taking care of these problems so that I can use your plugin.
 * Sharen McArthur
 *
   (I earlier sent another response, **before the new problems appeared**, but
   it didn’t show my response, and I didn’t get a message that my post was being
   held for moderation.) So that’s why I sent this one.

 * Hi Sharen,
 * Thank you for your detailed explanation. We understand your concerns and would
   like to clarify a few points. The issues happened because some settings were
   not configured properly. The “Hide Default Login Page” feature was enabled but
   not set up correctly. This setting disables the default WordPress login page (
   [https://storiesfromacottage.com/wp-login.php](https://storiesfromacottage.com/wp-login.php))
   and redirects users to the User Registration & Membership login form. If it is
   configured properly, this will work without issues.
 * Let me explain your points one by one:
    1. **Why the Lost Password shortcode reverted**
       The reset password shortcode appeared
       again because your hosting provider restored the site from a backup that contained
       the old configuration.
    2. **Why you were redirected to the homepage after login**
       This happens when the
       plugin cannot detect the login page correctly. If the “Hide Default Login Page”
       feature is set up properly, users will be redirected to the User Registration
       login page or the My Account page. You can follow the instructions here to configure
       it: [https://docs.wpuserregistration.com/docs/how-to-hide-the-wordpress-default-login-page-and-use-user-registration-login-page/](https://docs.wpuserregistration.com/docs/how-to-hide-the-wordpress-default-login-page-and-use-user-registration-login-page/)
    3. **What “select these pages in the appropriate page settings” means**
       If you
       choose a page like About Us as your login page, the login form will not appear.
       The selected page must contain the login form shortcode to work correctly.
    4. **Why the “Required Pages Missing” warning appeared**
       Even if you have a login
       page, the plugin checks if it contains the correct shortcode. If it doesn’t,
       the page is considered “missing,” and the warning appears. Assigning the page
       in the plugin settings usually removes this warning.
 * We hope this clears up your confusion. We strongly recommend reviewing the plugin
   documentation here: [https://docs.wpuserregistration.com](https://docs.wpuserregistration.com/).
   Understanding the plugin settings and features before changing them will help
   prevent misconfigurations and avoid being locked out of your site.
 * Best regards!

 * First, I have never used a page like About Us for a login in page. I have only
   used login or my account. That’s only logical.
 * I have discovered a few errors in my Pages. I went to my Registration Page and**
   NO shortcode showed.** The **actual registration box showed.** When I copied
   the box, the shortcode showed up:  **[user_registration_my_account]**. That is
   strange and that page is the only one that is like that. I would think that’s
   a problem.
 * Am I supposed to have a Page that says Account **and** a Page that says [Login](https://storiesfromacottage.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=5455&action=edit)—
   URM My Account Page? In addition, not only do the Account Page and the Login-
   URM My Account Page have this shortcode: **[user_registration_my_account]**,
   but so does the Registration Page. Even I know that’s not correct.
 * Thankfully, my lost password has the correct shortcode. I changed it using your
   code in your post.
 * I **don’t have** a Reset Passsword Page.
 * Again, I couldn’t find shortcode in your directions. Please let me know the correct
   shortcodes.
 * ***If I have to uninstall and re-install your plugin, would that affect my users?
   In other words, would they lose their accounts and whatever else they could lose?
 * I have attached a video. I think it shows the incorrect shortcode on the Lost
   Password page, but I changed it like I said above.
 * I would like to say I have no idea how all of these problems came about because
   I have had user signups over the last several months. The only shortcode I changed
   was the Lost Password shortcode.
 * I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving with your family.

 * Perhaps you didn’t see my last support response because someone marked my problem
   as resolved. I just saw that I had to change that. Sorry for just now figuring
   that out.
 * I don’t have a Reset Password Page – never have – and I don’t know why. All I
   know is things are messed up as I reported in my support response I sent around
   Thanksgiving.
 * I saw that I had to have a Reset Password Page when I looked at your instructions.
 * Thank you for helping with my problems and question in my support response that
   I sent around Thanksgiving.

 * Hi [@sharenmcarthurgmailcom](https://wordpress.org/support/users/sharenmcarthurgmailcom/),
 * Thank you for your update. We understand the confusion regarding the Reset Password
   Page, as many users have faced similar issues.
 * To make things simpler, we have removed the Reset Password Page requirement.
   Now, everything is handled through the Lost Password Page. You can configure
   and check the Lost Password settings here:

 * Since you have confirmed that your issue is resolved, we will close this support

 * Thank you for your response. However, there’s been a misunderstanding. I have
   not indicated that I am ready to close my problems with the plugin. What I said
   in my request yesterday was someone at your business marked it solved, and I
   didn’t know that when I sent my response around Thanksgiving. Today you only
   addressed the reset password page problem; you didn’t look at my Thanksgiving
   response, even though yesterday I thanked you in the last sentence for looking
   at it and helping me. Also, regarding the reset password page that no longer
   exisits: please send me an updated link that has the correct information about
   installing, etc., for your plugin.
 * Please answer the questions that I asked in my response that I sent Thanksgiving,
   which was right before the one I sent yesterday. I cannot move forward with your
   plugin until all of the questions are answered. That post clearly explains the
   problem that exist with your plugin on my website.

 * Hi [@sharenmcarthurgmailcom](https://wordpress.org/support/users/sharenmcarthurgmailcom/),
 * Thank you for your message, and we hope you had a wonderful **Thanksgiving**!
 * Regarding the Reset Password page, it is no longer required. As mentioned in
   our previous message, we have provided instructions for the Lost Password page
   in the documentation. You only need to create a Lost Password page. You can find
   the detailed documentation here: [Lost Password Issues](https://docs.wpuserregistration.com/docs/lost-password-issues/).
 * We also noticed that your site is experiencing **caching issues**, which is causing
   the form submission to show a **nonce error**. You can see the confirmation in
   this screenshot: [Screenshot Reference](https://i.imgur.com/tAsugXw.png).
 * To resolve this issue, please **exclude caches** from the **Registration, Login,
   and Lost Password pages**. For step-by-step instructions, please check this documentation:
   [How to Configure Caching Plugins](https://docs.wpuserregistration.com/docs/how-to-configure-caching-plugins).
 * If you follow these steps, the issue should be resolved.
