# Error message

 * I keep getting this WP error message off and on all day long instead of where
   my site should be: Error establishing a database connection. What are some of
   the reasons that this might be happening?
 * It has been intermittent all day long and has happened on two different computers,
   so I assume that it is happening to all.
 * I can access specific files on the site, so I know that the host is there doing
   its thing. Any ideas?

 * Contact your host and ask them what’s up?
    Check error logs?
 * If it helps, I can assure you that it’s not a typical WordPress behavior. 🙂

 * My experience:
    Running PHP version 4.4.4 in conjunction with MySQL 5.0.22 or
   there around on a Windows server with IIS resulted in the same error message 
   for me.
 * What I did was to uppdate the libmysql.dll and add the php4ts.dll. These files
   can be downloaded from [http://www.phpdeveloper.org/news/6143](http://www.phpdeveloper.org/news/6143)
   among other places.
 * Thus this is not a WordPress failure, but a compatibility issue with PHP and 
   MySQL.
