# error retrieving the JSON data

 * Hello,
 * I tried to generate a news Backup with XCloner.
 * Database backup went fine, also did the scanning of the files system. After processing
   13% (600 files) I got the following error:
 *     ```
       There was an error retrieving the JSON data from the server, try again or contact the developers!
       Details: error -- undefined
       JSON url: index2.php?option=com_cloner&task=refresh&json=1&startf=600&lines=4386&backup=backup_2013-08-02_04-25_[*MY-DOMAIN*]-sql-nodrop.tar&excl_manual=
       ```
   
 * Why is that?

 * Try opening the generated administrator/backups/perm.txt file , and look between
   lines 600 and 700, do you notice any large files that you could exclude?
 * Also, how much free disk space do you have available?

 * Something similar happened to me (I think). The plugin always worked just fine
   but this last time when I tried to backup, I got this:

 * And the backup didn’t complete.

 * UPDATE:
 * Changing from “AJAX Backup Refresh Mode” to “NORMAL Backup Refresh Mode” allowed
   for the backup to complete. No more errors.
 * Why is this?
 * (I still haven’t tested the backup to see if everything is ok)

 * The backup process fails due to the mysql server which drops the queries at some
   point with ” MySQL server has gone away ” error, i would suggest checking with
   your hosting support on this.

 * Hi,
    I was having this problem too, and seems to have solved it by reducing the“
   Files to process per request” to 30 and increasing the “Time between requests”
   to 2000. I still get the message every now and then with the main difference 
   being that clicking the retry now works and the backup continues.
