• Hi there,

A client of ours has a pretty active website with email notifications all over the place. There’s a ‘prayer wall’ where folks can submit intentions and others can click ‘I prayed for this’ and the OP will get a nice automated email saying they’re being prayed for. As well as donation admin + donor notifications, requests for services, etc.

I received a ton of emails from Post SMTP reporting Post SMTP Email Errors, all with ERROR: Status code is 401 .

Searched around a bit but this is slightly out of my wheelhouse troubleshooting wise. If anyone can let me know what’s causing this error I’d appreciate it. One thing to note is that it may have been overloaded, if that’s a thing… It seems like someone went through a few pages of the prayer wall and clicked ‘I prayed for this’ over 100 times in the course of 7 or so minutes. Could it have just been trying to do too much? All emails since say they’ve been delivered fine.

    Thanks for any advice.

  • What errors do you see in the POST SMTP Log files?

Do the 401 Status codes apply to a particular email, if so, can you view that email in the Post SMTP logs and see both the log and transcript to see if any errors occurred during the sending of the mail?

Thanks for your response. Yes, certain emails went through fine and only some had the error. When viewing the email log and session transcripts, the only error codes that appear say “ERROR: Status code is 401”.

    what is your smtp service?

when you check the email log something diffrent in the mail parts? (from, to , etc…)
