I get the following error when I try to upload an image using either of the uploaders: “Unable to create directory /public_html/wp-content/uploads/2008/12. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

I did find a similar problem in the forums, and followed the advice therein, setting folder permissions to 777, but I am still getting this error message. I am able to upload directly to the folders through my ISP’s file manager, and have even created the “12” folder it is seeking, but even then, I cannot access this folder from inside WP even if I go to the Media Library. Neither the folder nor images show up. Any ideas?

  • Might need to make wp-content, wp-content/uploads, wp-content/uploads/2008 be 777 permissions.

Also check to make sure the path to your upload folder is set correctly in “wp-admin/options-misc.php”. I accident did this once when I moved a WP installation and didn’t change the upload path.

Thank you both for your help. My path somehow was changed. Everything’s shiny now. Have a great day.

Where do I check the path? I have the same problem. Do I check this using FTP, or withing WP settings?

The uploaded file could not be moved to D:\Hosting\3056829\html/wp-content/uploads/2009/12.

I get a similar error to this and have been round and round about it. My site is hosted at GoDaddy.com and they say there is no problem on their end.

I’ve been through what I can find and understand online regarding media file upload errors. Can someone help me with this? I’d appreciate it.

Has anyone heard of this bug?

The problem I’m having came on suddenly, wondering if this is the reason.

“Some wordpress users of the 2.8.5 release have reported that some php
    files have been added to
their wordpress directory. It could be possible that they have been
hit by this bug. Therefore it
is important to take some countermeasures as soon as possible.”
