# Error when subscribing

 * A user just notified me of a problem so I went and checked it out. When you attempt
   to subscribe either via the popup or a form on a standard page, everything looks
   good until you hit the button and then you get:
 * “ERROR: Sorry, there was an error. Please be sure JavaScript and Cookies are 
   enabled in your browser and try again.”
 * My host recently upgraded me from PHP 5.x to 7.x, could that be the problem? 
   If so, is there a workaround because they are starting to charge for continued
   use of 5.x.

 * Turns out it was a conflict with WP-SpamShield. Enabling the “Disable anti-spam
   for miscellaneous forms.” option in SpamShield solves the problem.
