# Errors casued when moving wordpress site

 * I am trying to move a wordpress site from one directory to another and am encountering
   a host of issues. The main one seems to be that when i copy the index.php and.
   htaccess to public_html and then link index.php back to the directory with the
   rest of the files it not only shows up on the website as error 403 (_Forbidden
   You don’t have permission to access / on this server._) it also gives me 500 
   error (
    _Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration
   and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator,
   [cgiadmin@yourhostingaccount.com](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/errors-casued-when-moving-wordpress-site/cgiadmin@yourhostingaccount.com?output_format=md)
   and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done
   that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available
   in the server error log. Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was 
   encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request._) on 
   the login page. SO I can’t login to change anything there. I’ve checked the database
   and the url is correct there so I have no idea what the issue is.

   if that helps at all as I will be continuing different things to get it to work
   and thus this status might change.

 * **UPDATE:** I have uploaded the old site back as the url so the website above
   is the old html site not the wordpress site.
 * Also if it helps I have read both the [Moving Word Press](http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress),
   [ Changing Site URL](http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL#Edit_wp-config.php),
   and the [Giving WordPress it’s own directory](http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory#Pointing_your_home_site.27s_URL_to_a_subdirectory)
   tutorials and used those instructions to move the files which led to the aforementioned
   problems. I am still unable to log in at my site either via wp-admin or wp-login(
   tried both same results). Thank you all again for your help.
