I found this thread, which seemed like it solved the problem, but it’s not working for me:

We’re running plugin version 2.2.3. I’m trying to exclude a custom post type category (portfolio). I included the portfolio_page post type to include in results, and added the category slugs, but it still shows those portfolio items in the related posts. I double checked to make sure a portfolio item was in one of the excluded categories alone (and not also in an approved category) and there is one, but it still shows in the results.

I can exclude by portfolio ID, but being able to exclude by category would be nicer.

    Hi,

I suspect the issue is because of the custom post types. Where are you adding the categories, in the plugin settings page? Are these categories of the posts or the custom taxonomies? I haven’t yet got the custom taxonomies to work with the plugin. It’s one of the things that I’m still trying to get done without any bugs or clashes.

I added the category slugs at the bottom of the List Tuning Options section. The text below says “Comma separated list of category slugs”. The autocomplete works for the blog categories, but not the custom post type categories. Does that answer your questions? So, for now, it seems we can at least exclude by page ID until there is a more efficient solution. Thanks for the follow up.

Yes. That is correct. The custom post type categories are something I haven’t been able to find a universal solution for as there can potentially be an unlimited set of taxonomies per CPT
