# External only backups

 * Is there a way to store backups externally, without them being local?
 * I use Google Drive but do not want them to be stored in the Updraft dashboard
   and on my blog server as they take up a lot of space.

 * Thanks for asking!
 * UpdraftPlus cannot send the backups externally. What you can do though is connect
   UpraftPlus to Dropbox, Google Drive, or other remote storage options, and then
   you can just set Dropbox/Google Drive to automatically sync the backups on your
   computer.

 * Thank you for responding! Maybe external was the wrong word. I just want it to
   go to google drive only and not locally. I don’t need the option to restore within
   the plugin. Is that possible?

 * Hi,
 * That is possible.
 * Just go to UpdraftPlus > Settings > Show Expert settings > select the option “
   Delete local backups” option. That should delete the local backups after the 
   backups are successfully sent to your remote storage.
 * Please note that you will need to delete the backups that are already stored 
   on your local server.
 * Please let me know if that works.
