Hi, after switching from a separate reCAPTCHA plugin to the one integrated in Wordfence, i had 2 known issues of customers who were unable to do the payment. After turning off the reCAPTCHA for WooCommerce, it works.

Any chance to see related logfiles? Payment failures are not reflecting in Stripe or PayPal.

“Something went wrong” at the checkout was one message; the other:

“Payment declined—tell the customer to try a different payment method, or they can contact their issuing bank for more information.”

After turning off reCAPTCHA, it works for both (Failing was Credit Card, PayPal and SEPA).

Hi @hechtimnetz, thank-you for getting in touch.

Wordfence’s reCAPTCHA is used for login and registration on default WordPress and WooCommerce pages only, so it seems strange to interfere with the payment stage when ours isn’t designed to be included at that point. It’s also worth noting that Google don’t share with us why some human users are given a low score – just the score itself.

If you aren’t seeing errors in your server/PHP logs at the timestamp the transactions were made, or any entries that could be considered false-positive blocks by Wordfence on your Live Traffic page then those reasons can likely be ruled out.

In theory, our reCAPTCHA shouldn’t conflict with WooCommerce’s own CAPTCHA requirements for certain payment types. Under WooCommerce PayPal Payments reCAPTCHA in the WooCommerce settings, there’s an option to enable logging for rejected attempts. It’s possible that might help identify issues.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.
