    Sounds like your ftp client is mushing the code together.

    This happened to me using Filezilla. You need to set the data transfer type to binary.

    Some times your software installation might not work because you need to transfer your files in Binary . This video shows you where to change the transfer type in filezilla.

    Also make sure you are running PHP version 5.3 or higher
