# Featured plugins in Plugin Directory

 * I’ve noticed that for some time the same few plugins are listed as featured in
   the Plugin Directory. I wonder how the featured plugins are selected. Are they
   manually picked by the editors of WP.org or is there some sort of algorithm which
   does that?
 * How do featured plugins differ from popular ones?

 * AFAIK, those plugins are all created by Matt, Automattic, or someone on the WordPress
   team.
