I just checked the code and confirmed there is nothing wrong that I see – if you uncheck the box that says put this in the excerpt, my plugin won’t put it in the excerpt. Now, there could be another plugin that upon getting the trigger that a post was created is putting contents in the excerpt. Are you running other plugins that might do this?
Hi Allen, not that I’m aware of but I am a total novice where WP is concerned. I had my website built for me and am now just trying to automate certain parts of it. I have looked at the plugins that are installed and non of them have that option, however of course it may be part of the design of the website.
Is the generation of the Excerpt something you may look at it in furure versions?

It could be the theme because the theme decides what shows on the home page – and it might want to draw from the post excerpts, so it would put a trigger that whenever a post gets saved, the contents go into the excerpt. That’s my best guess. I have no plans about doing more with the excerpt as most people want anything more to be handled by custom posts.
