# First column width

 * Hi Ian, I have a three column table (Text 5, Text 30, Text 90) and I want to 
   reduce the size of the first two columns. I can reduce the second one, but not
   the first one – no matter what I set it to (e.g. 1) the rendering on the web 
   page always comes out the same. It’s a bit weird – does this happen to you ?

 * Hello Mike,
 * I have looked into the problem and it seems that there is no issue.
    You can 
   set the width of the first column, but there is one exception: – when you set
   the width explicitly to EVERY column and the table has 100% width (which is by
   default) – sizes are not applied. In this case, you can leave at least one column
   without the width to fill the remaining space OR set table width in pixels as
   following: `[wp_table id="{id}" width="300px"]`.

 * I’m getting unusual behaviour with pixle width also.
 * I’ve set the first column to 100 px and left the second column undefined.
 * In the ‘preview’ the table shows a narrow 1st column and the balance in the 2nd
   column. But when it is displayed on the final web page it is 50/50. Link is below
   and first column is set at 100 px.

 * I think it would be easier if the plugin allowed % width also. Then if you have
   2 columns you could set say 25/75 and that would be the 100%. The reason I think%
   width would be better is this get a little bit tricky because of how the table
   displays on a mobile device.

 * Thank you for writing.
    As for your table, it looks like it has 100px set for
   both columns ([http://take.ms/LiqM3](http://take.ms/LiqM3)). In such case, it
   will not work. Please check the width of the second column and unset it.
 * As for the % width, it sounds reasonable. Adding this to my backlog for the next
   updates.
